Savitri Temple, Pushkar

The holy city of Pushkar is also called the city of temples. There are more than 400 hundred temples in Pushkar but the main attraction being the temple of Savitri and Lord Brahma. This otherwise sleepy town echoes with hectic activity during the Pushkar Camel Fair and festival.

According to the Hindu mythology Savitri is the first wife of Lord Brahma. When He was all set to start a Yagna on earth in the place of Pushkar (determined by drooping a lotus flower), Savitri's presence was the prerequisite. But She had kept Him waiting. Lord Brahma, irritated at this, married Gayatri the milkmaid to start the yagna on the most auspicious moment.
Infuriated Savitri cursed that Lord Brahma would not be worshipped anywhere else but Pushkar. Hence you find the temple dedicated to Lord Brahma only in Pushkar.
After the Brahma temple you can trek up to the temple on the Ratnagiri hill nearby, dedicted to Savitri, the first wife of Lord Brahma. This is where Savitri is believed to have stayed awhile, after being infuriated with Brahma. Savitri left fot the nearby Ratnagiri Hill. There is a beautiful statue of Goddess Savitri inside the temple.
Savitri Temple in Pushkar is a temple of world recognition. Savitri Temple is highly acclaimed by the tourists as well as by the locals.

One has to climb a long series of steps to reach the shrine at Savitri Temple. It presents a panoramic view of the beautiful lake and the picturesque surrounding of the villages.
